New Covers, New Releases, Mini-Tour with Maureen

If you follow me on Twitter or Tumblr, you've already seen the link to EW's (!!!) cover reveal. But for the rest of you:

My wonderful publicist Elizabeth made the cover reveal happen, and I am still picking my jaw up off the floor. Thank you, Elizabeth! Hurrah!

I love them, you guys.

They're my absolute dream covers—simple, colorful, elegant, fun, romantic. Setting-based. Strong type. I couldn't be happier or more proud. An ENORMOUS thank you to Julie, Eileen, and everyone else at PenguinTeen who has been working so hard to make these look so good. My books are lucky to be in their hands.

And . . . I'm thrilled that your online response has been so positive! I knew you would approve. It's because of you, my dearest readers, that these books are getting a second life. :-)

If you'd like to see the new covers bigger, you'll find them here. (Scroll down.) And now! Answers to your FAQ:

Why the new covers?
Well, there are many reasons. But I assume you can tell by looking at them that we're hoping to broaden the readership. I'm happy these will have a wider appeal.

When will they be out?
Anna and Lola's new covers (paperback and ebook) will be released July 16th. Isla and the Happily Ever After will be published (hardcover and ebook) sometime this fall. The date on Amazon/B&N is listed as September 17th. I have no idea if that's correct. Publishing is weird like that. I'll let you know when I have a firm date.

Will I be able to purchase hardcovers of Anna and Lola with the new look?
I'm not sure. I assume this decision will be made in the future, based on sales. But I could be wrong. Again, I'll let you know.

Will there be a box set?
Man, I hope so! Wouldn't that be cool?! But I don't know. This is another decision that my publisher will make in the future.

Will there be a paperback version of Lola with the old cover?
No. Lola will be released as a paperback with the new cover on July 16th.

Will the paperback of Lola contain an excerpt of Isla?
I'm not sure. Maybe? I'm really not sure. Sorry.

Will there be an opportunity to purchase an Isla that matches the old covers?
No. For readers who are sad that their hardcover set will not match, I'm sincerely sorry. As an avid reader and perfectionist, I understand your frustration. I like matching sets, too. But—as the author—please allow me to be clear that I am one hundred percent behind this new look.

But wasn't there a photo shoot for Isla ages ago?
Yes. But I never saw any of the pictures, so . . . I doubt you will either.

Are you done writing Isla?
No. But it's going well! Except, of course, the days like THESE:

(From this great Tumblr.)

SPEAKING OF ISLA! Here's the latest book description:
From the glittering streets of Manhattan to the moonlit rooftops of Paris, falling in love is easy for hopeless dreamer Isla and introspective artist Josh. But as they begin their senior year in France, Isla and Josh are quickly forced to confront the heartbreaking reality that happily-ever-afters aren’t always forever.
Their romantic journey is skillfully intertwined with those of beloved couples Anna and Étienne and Lola and Cricket, whose paths are destined to collide in a sweeping finale certain to please fans old and new.

Yay yay yay!

Okay, time to move on? Yes. Time to move on.

There are *THREE* new releases this week that I want you to know about:

I'm a huge fan of Robin Benway's intelligent, funny contemporary novels, and her latest, Also Known As (AKA), is about a teen safecracker and spy. And seeing the world! And a private school! And a cute boy! If you like Ally Carter or E. Lockhart's The Disreputable History of Frankie-Landau Banks, absolutely check it out.

In debuts, Rainbow Rowell's Eleanor & Park is so phenomenal that I blurbed it:

Eleanor & Park is a breathless, achingly good read about love and outsiders.”
—Stephanie Perkins, New York Times bestselling author of Anna and the French Kiss and Lola and the Boy Next Door

(Don't tell her publisher that I'm not a New York Times bestseller, okay? Only in Brazil. I LOVE YOU, BRAZIL. YOU ARE MY FAVORITE.)

It's the best contemporary YA debut that I've read in ages. It's crazy romantic, it's punk rock, it's heartbreaking, it's eighties, it's hilarious, it's beautiful. Need more nudging? It's received three starred reviews, it's an Amazon Best Book of the Month, and it's one of the Indie Next List's current top ten picks. Incredible.

Also? Rainbow's Twitter feed is hilarious. And she loves Harry Potter. (I met her at LeakyCon last summer!) And her next book, Fangirl, is illustrated by NOELLE freaking STEVENSON.

I just about died when I learned that.

And finally . . .

The second book in Maureen Johnson's Edgar Award-nominated, kickass Shades of London series is OUT NOW. And I'm psyched to be—very, very, very last second—crashing three stops on her tour! Starting TODAY, catch us here:

MARCH 1: FLYLEAF BOOKS—Chapel Hill, NC, 7pm

Maureen and I toured together a few autumns ago, and we stole golf carts and wore velvet pirate hats and ate donuts and, basically, you don't want to miss this.

Not that we will be doing those EXACT things this weekend.

I'M JUST SAYING. Join us if you can!

  1. The new covers are super adorable! Of course I just bought a print copy of Anna for you to sign in Raleigh, and now I'll have to buy all 3 again! So you'll have to come back to Raleigh after Isla comes out, okay? :D

    1. It’s no secret that most men only want one thing, right?

Well it turns out that’s not only wrong, but may actually be the root of many failed relationships.

In fact, the one thing men are universally obsessed with...

Is actually a feeling he’s been chasing his whole life.

It’s an elusive combination of emotion and biological drive that’s rarely satisfied in life or love.

      ===> If he’s shutting you out, here’s what’s missing... <=====

And when you know how to satisfy this life long obsession...

He will make it his life long mission to cherish and please you...

And he will pursue your love to the ends of the earth.

Here’s a video you won’t want to miss that shows you how to become your man’s deepest obsession:

===> (The most powerful emotion for men) - (Men fall in love with women who do THIS): <=====

  2. The covers are so, so beautiful. (Shhhh...don't tell the old covers, but I like them better!)

    Can't wait for Isla!

    Take care,

  3. I need to make sure Debbie see's this it will make her extra happy, she has gone off a couple times about the injustice of authors not having a say in their covers. I've had Eleanor and Park on why radar for awhile, I really enjoyed Attachments and so excited you blurbed it! Also I love the new covers! It feels magical that Isla will have The Empire State Building on it after the post card I sent you!

  4. Classy new covers! And lucky me who haven't bought the old versions. Now I just hope the Isla cover will stick around for the paperback edition so I'll have a matching set of those. :)

Am super excited about Eleanor & Park and eagerly awaiting its arrival in my mailbox.

  5. Oh shucks, I really thought that Isla would get a cover like Anna and Lola. I mean, I understand why you made these changes, but I wanted to have my three books to match. Of course, this tactic will work out just fine, because I will feel obligated to buy the new covers of the three books, so they look perfect on my bookshelf... This is exactly what happened to me with Beth Revis' "Across The Universe" trilogy. But anyways, I love the way you write, and I would buy your books even if they were cover-less. So, if you're happy with your new covers, then cheers! :)

  6. I just have to say that BRAZIL LOVES YOUUUUU TOOOOOOOO!!!!!

  7. Stephanie, I'm so glad YOU'RE happy with the covers. And I hope that many more readers of a certain age (*cough*39*cough*) such as myself are attracted by their sophistication, because the stories are wonderful. It's great to hear that Isla is coming along and I hope those head-desk days are few and far between!

  8. The new covers are lovely and will certainly appeal to an older audience, which I presume is the reasoning behind it. As an owner of the original hardback covers though I am disappointed that I won't get the set as they are companion novels. I will get Isla... as an ebook. That way I still get to read a book I am very much looking forward to but I won't break out in OCD hives every time I look at my bookshelf!!

I like the old covers, but these new ones are cool, too. I especially like the bright colors.

Wish you were coming to SF! We miss you here! Maybe when Isla comes out, your book tour will bring you back. :)

I love the new covers I wish I could purchase Anna with the new cover!! (probably not because I live In Australia and It takes 59348503 years for things to come here)but other than that I'm so excited for Isla and I am having Stephanie writing withdrawals so I am going to read Anna again tonight...

  11. Do you think the publisher would consider releasing a pdf of the new Anna & Lola covers so we could make book covers? That way when we buy Isla they will all match. For the record I like the new covers, but I am a bit bummed that mine won't all match.

    1. Yes, this would be great... If I could print nice color covers for my hardbacks with the new design I'd be so so happy!

  12. The new covers are absolutely gorgeous, but I have to say that I'm sad my copy of Isla is not going to match, my OCD is itching here. I guess I'll just have to purchase all of the again, no sacrifice at all, though. So since you love Brazil so much, make the new ones come to us as well! Please, please?

  13. Stephanie, I loved the new covers. I look forward to reading Lola and Isla and sometimes I want to imagine after a break that will bring us new story.

Perkins have made me your stories vicious.

  14. So, you know how much I love ANNA. And I am excited to have a legit reason to buy a new copy. That's not crazy at all.. is it?

And your description of ISLA sounds amazing and beautiful and I am so excited to read it!!! <3

  15. I'm very bummed my covers won't match. Is there any way that a printable PDF of the old look will be available? At least for the book spine! I love the new look, but why now? Why not for a rerelease of when it's available on paperback? Ugh! My OCD is going to be on high alert every time I see my lovely Stephanie Perkins book collection on my bookshelf.

  16. I'm so sad that the cover of Isla won't be like the others, with a girl and a boy :( Seriously, my heart is broken! But you are such an amazing author, so i'll believe that this is for the best! Today I finished Lola and the boy next door... what can I say? You make me believe in love, in magic and cute boys. Now i am reading Anna and the french kiss AGAIN. When something is good, IT´S GOOD. I love you, Steph, and hopefully you will come to Brazil someday. I'll be waiting! Xoxo

  17. I really like the new covers, but I admit I pouted when I saw them, because now I'll have an unmatched set of books by you. But I'll deal with it. Glad for you!

  18. Oh, wow. Huge improvement on the covers! I like them a lot better! I can say that cause I'm just a reader. LOL. What's inside I always loved, of course, but I definitely see the wider appeal on the new covers. You must be thrilled! Hooray!!

  19. The new covers look great!!
