Giveaway! (Teen Writers Edition)

Today's free giveaway is for the latest edition of Victoria Hanley's Seize the Story (Prufrock Press Inc., 2012). Here is the publisher's description:

Do you wish you had a published writer's secrets at your fingertips, ready to help you achieve your goals of publication, success, and the chance to be the next great teen writer? In Seize the Story: A Handbook for Teens Who Like to Write, Victoria Hanley, award-winning author of young adult fiction, spills the secrets for bringing action, adventure, humor, and drama to stories. All of the elements of fiction, from creating believable dialogue to exciting plots, are laid out clearly and illustrated with examples taken straight from story excerpts by excellent writers. The book is packed with writing exercises designed to encourage teens to tell the stories that are theirs alone.

In addition, other published authors of young adult literature share their insights about the writing life. Teens can gain firsthand advice from accomplished writers T. A. Barron, Joan Bauer, Hilari Bell, Chris Crutcher, David Lubar, Lauren Myracle, Todd Mitchell, Nancy Garden, and many more.

I'm one of the book's featured authors (YAY!), so I received an extra copy that I'd like to pass along.

To be eligible for this giveaway:

(A) You must be a teenager.
(B) You must be interested in creative writing.

This giveaway is open internationally. To enter, please leave a comment here on this post (on my actual blog, not Goodreads or anywhere else that's being served by a feed) that includes your email address. I'll randomly select a winner in my next post . . . whenever that is. It could be tomorrow, could be in three days, could be in a week. So enter now!

And good luck!

UPDATE: This giveaway has ended. Thank you for the interest!

Please pick me as the winner! I love all your books, my favorite being Anna and the French Kiss, and I can't wait for the new book to come out so I can read your latest work of art. I AM a teenager (only 13) and I definitely have an interest in creative writing. I either want to be a CIA agent or a writer when I get older! My email is sophiepolski223@gmail.com and my twitter is @SophiePolski... just in case you're wondering. :)

  14. Hello!

I'm Georgina and I'm fifteen. I've wanted to be an author since I was eleven and I like to think that I will be able to achieve my dreams.

I've been collecting books and things like these recently as I've decided to try entering short story competitions; that in itself is a challenge seeing as word limits are, for me, just meant to be broken!

My name is Katherine, I'm 16, and this would be incredible. I've had stories and characters trapped inside me ever since I can remember, and I've been having so much trouble writing them out... It's like they prefer to talk in my head! I'm home schooled and some guidance would be so welcome. I know the choice is random so I'll keep my fingers crossed! Thanks :)

Hey! I'm Shaneli and I am 14 years old. I had no friends at my school until I was about 7, and because of that I took up a great liking to reading. In the past few years I've discovered a love that I have for writing. Although I'm not even close to the best, my dream is to one day become an author. Books have such a huge roll in my life that I really can't imagine becoming anything other than an author at this point. Thank you so much for this amazing opportunity! Lots of loves, Shaneli :)

  28. Hi!
I'm seventeen and love to read. I'll read anything: classics, contemporary novels, pretentious poetry-- literally anything. I've participated in six NaNoWriMos and I really like to write but I felt I haven't really produced anything all that great. I have ideas, but I'm not good at translating them from thoughts to actual words.
In any case, thank you for writing such wonderful books and being so connected to your readership and teenagers who want to write. You're an inspiration to us all!
    Best wishes,
Anna (not of And The French Kiss fame)

And, when I was 13 I promised myself I would finish writing my first book before I was 18 and lived up to that promise with 4 months to spare. I've only ever read Gail Carson Levine's writing book, so I'd love to read more!!!

  64. Stephanie,

Hi! My name is Anabel and I live in Louisville, Kentucky. You are my favorite author and I have (honestly, I'm not lying) nearly memorized Anna. I almost got the chance to meet you while my family was travelling last summer, but (unfortunately) I missed you by about 12 hours when you were visitng Bryant Park in New York.

I am 15 years old and have entered a few of my writing pieces into contests- I've won a couple but I've never been able to commit to a large project no matter how hard I try and I believe that getting this book can help me become a bettter writer.

Writing is my passion and it's what I want to do for the rest of my life- whether I actually am an author, or if it's just a hobby of mine.

Receiving this book from you would mean more to me than just getting the text (although, that would be amazing too), it would be the fact that it came from STEPHANIE PERKINS (meaning you) my... dare I say it... role model.

Sorry if this came out a bit overdone- but I mean it all. Thank you for your time and I hope you consider me for the give away!!

    Thank you,

    Anabel
