Ramble, Ramble, Ramble-dee-doo

My cat in a box. Nothing to do with anything.

I have a bigly huge list of things I want to blog about, but . . . oy. Looking at the list — and its bigly hugeness* — makes me not want to blog about ANY of them, even though they're all awesome.

C'est la vie.

OH, LOOK! BULLET POINTS ABOUT OTHER STUFF:

• I updated my website. Nothing major, but if you're interested in how to pronounce √Čtienne St. Clair, there's an answer in my F.A.Q. Also, I've avoided the how-to-get-an-agent question on my blog, because I got mine nontraditionally. I don't feel like my advice is particularly helpful. But I finally kinda sorta answer the question. (Also in my F.A.Q.) And I updated the On Writing page. It still doesn't have my advice but, for now, there is a tiny handful of BRILLIANT links. Check them out for inspiration!

• Thanks for your fantastic comments about my plot (and √Čtienne) last week! Happy, happy me. To answer a question that keeps coming up, stacythompsonschuck asked:

When will ARC's be available and how can I get one?

I'm sorry. I have no idea. As soon as I know, I'll post the information. Thank you for asking!

• My husband Jarrod is the best. I don't think I've mentioned it here in a while, so it just needed to be said.

• Those new cheeseburger flavored Doritos actually taste like cheeseburgers. At first I thought this was cool. Now that the novelty has worn off, I've realized it's gross. Also, the product's full name is: Doritos Late Night: All Nighter Cheeseburger. Late night? All nighter? Is this necessary?

I have a headache, Doritos. I BLAME YOU.

• I'd planned a giveaway this week, but a bunch o' people beat me to it. Check out that link for a giant list of recommended reads and most of those links will lead you to people giving away copies of them. Good luck! I'll save my giveaway for next week.

• Cute boys are cute. (Obligatory link to 1:24 minutes of a cute boy being cute. Nothing happens, but sexy nerd glasses are involved. Score!)

• I met Weronika Janczuk! If you're active in the writing/blogging/tweeting world, there's a good chance you already know her. If you don't, allow me to explain: Weronika has written a novel every year since the sixth grade. She interned at Flux. She reads for two different literary agents and will soon become an agent in her own right. She's currently revising a new novel that she hopes to sell later this year.

And she's about to graduate high school.

Weronika is AMAZING. We had a wonderful afternoon coffee during which I learned that not only does she have this incredible (obvious) drive, but that she's also super cool and super nice. Regular blog readers know that nice goes a long way with me! I want to be like her when I grow up.

• I'm worried I'm becoming vain. Because I'm looking at that picture up there and thinking, "Who killed my hair?" "I need to find a lipstick that doesn't fade" and "Seriously, WHY IS MY HAIR SO FLAT?"

• I will be really, really happy when I'm done with this draft of Lola and the Boy Next Door. Really. Really. Happy. And that's all I'm saying about that.

*EDITED TO ADD: Did I steal "bigly huge" from Will Grayson, Will Grayson? (Great book, by the way.) Or from somewhere else, maybe? It sounds familiar.

  1. I love your randomness, Steph. And so awesome you and Weronika got to meet up! I am headed over to your website to check out the changes now!

PS - I think your husband is awesome, too, because he loves Harry Potter more than I do (which is difficult!). Are y'all planning to go to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter when it opens? My husband and I are going in February. :)

  2. Abby — Thank you. :) And LUCKY YOU!! That's awesome! We don't have any official plans yet, but there's a big HP conference down there shortly after it opens. We juuust might have to go.

  3. Wooooo kitty! And wooooo Weronika! And I'm glad to know those Doritos taste like cheeseburgers, because, yes, the shnozberries still do taste like shnozberries. Hee hee. Super Troopers is fantastic. :)

  4. It's been a while since you posted a picture of Mr. T. What was in the box?

Yay for meeting Weronika! I don't know how she does it all.

  5. ZacharySuper Troopers IS fantastic. (So is Willy Wonka!) I'm still bummed that all of the Broken Lizard movies since have looked lame.

Myrna — Mr. T is inspecting the box of my fancy new laser printer! WOO HOO! And I don't know how Weronika does it either. My word. I wish I could bottle her energy. Of course, if I did, I'd probably just sell it on the black market.

  6. Ooh your cat is adorable! :3 And his name is Mr. T, I hear?

I checked out your On Writing page, and it's awesome! I found some really helpful stuff there. :)

Yeah...I'm not a fan of burgers in general but the chip looks interesting. xD I may try it out just for the experience, haha.

Looking forward to that giveaway! ;]

Ooh, it's awesome you got to meet Weronika! That girl's accomplished so much in so little time...and I concur; I wanna be like her when I grow up too! :D

  7. This is a fantabulous ramble:-) I don't know how Weronika has done so much so young, soooo impressive and dude, what is up with lipstick not lasting?

  8. Red Angel — Thank you! It stands for Mr. Tumnus, but Mr. T is far too awesome a nickname for me to resist. ;) And you SHOULD try the chips for the experience! They're really, really odd.

Frankie — For real. And long-lasting lipsticks are always sooo awful and dry!

    Weronika — *smiles back*

  9. You look beautiful, not faded or flat. Weronika critiqued ten pages of my manuscript and had fantastic advice. And after six years of being a cardiac nurse, the thought cheeseburger doritos make my coronary arteries hurt.

  11. Randomness rocks!

    Looking forward to the contests!

Did I ever mention that I love that you started out on nano? That's so immensely cool!

  12. I think your hair looks fine, but I understand that feeling oh-so-well! Never happy with mine whether it's long or short blonde or brunette (kids would love it if I went blue...but I doubt my hubs and boss would appreciate the gesture)

I subscribed to your blog last night but (don't ya know) the browser flaked out and shut down in the middle. Was thrilled to see it was added after all. Love your random list of bullet points!

(omg...word verification is an actual WORD! sight)

  13. Two summers ago, they tested those Doritos out in SoCal, but the bags were white with a big X on them and you had to guess the flavor. They really DO taste like cheeseburgers!

Weronkia is the coolest. I would have been happy with one tenth of her coolness when I was 18.

Now you've got me rambling in the comments!

Soon Lola will be done! Soon!!

    Shelley

  14. Fabulous randomness!

I have to admit, cheeseburger doritos sound awful. But that could be because I just ate a very stale McDonald's cheeseburger and feel very out off.

  15. Hi Steph!

I wandered over from Weronika's blog. Wonderful interview over there by the way!

Congrats on the book release :)

Love your hair! I've always wanted blue hair but I'd have to make other job arrangements if I had it. Le sigh...

    Happy weekend,
    Jen

Corinne — You are very welcome. I couldn't be more happy for you!

Claire — YAY! Do you do NaNo, too? I looooove it.

MissV — Thank you for subscribing to my blog! I'm so honored!

Shelley — NO WAY. You got to do a Doritos taste test?? I am jealous.

Sangu — Goodness, yes. If they sound bad to you, STAY AWAY. They are a rarity: exactly as advertised.

Jen — Welcome!! And thank you, than you, thank you!

Samantha — Love the jazz hands. :)
